Massage

pic-bowen-therapyMassage therapy treats specific conditions as well as affecting the body as a whole, promoting a general sense of well-being.

The therapeutic effects of massage therapy benefit men and women of all ages – infants, children, pregnant women and the elderly. It can provide relief and often recovery from a wide variety of mild and acute conditions.

Massage has a direct and indirect effect on all the systems of the body:
Circulatory System (Blood and Lymph)
Massage Therapy increases circulation to all parts of the body thus improving the supply of nutrients to the body tissues and promoting elimination of waste products.
Muscular System
Massage Therapy reduces muscular tension which aids in healing from trauma and injury, helps in improving and maintaining proper body posture. Massage helps in maintaining muscle tone and flexibility thus preventing harmful repetitive strain injuries. Massage Therapy for the stomach muscles and intestines aids in digestion.
Nervous System
Massage Therapy relieves tension and promotes relaxation as well as relieves pain.
Respiratory System
Massage Therapy improves deep breathing and can help people with chronic Bronchitis, Emphysema, Asthma, and Cystic Fibrosis to name a few.
Overall Well-being
Massage Therapy promotes relaxation and improves body awareness.
Everyone can benefit from Massage Therapy, especially people:

  • in physically demanding jobs (especially repetitive strains or maintaining a constant position)
  • with whiplash injuries
  • with arthritis, stiff joints, and/or myofascial pain
  • partially disabled, or incapacitated persons

Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy offers patients assistance with relaxation, immediate improvements in injury-induced pain and diminished mobility, and sometimes even restructuring of the body’s energy dynamics. In our clinic, all patients receive bodywork treatments with every visit in addition to their homeopathic, herbal and nutritional prescriptions. The benefits of Bowen Therapy include its wide application to many specific injuries and medical conditions. The technique was designed to be holistic in the sense that it does not focus on a single issue or specific presentation of pain or dysfunction. Rather, it is designed to treat the whole body by restoring balance primarily through the autonomic nervous system, and allowing the body to engage in its own healing in optimal fashion.

In this way it is a form of “homeopathic touch” where the body is given information and the practitioner waits for the body to respond. The practitioner does not rely on diagnoses, but instead facilitates the body to restore its own balance and health.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha has been used to treat both chronic and acute disorders, including pain, stiffness, fever, chills, cough, nausea, fatigue, muscle and tendon injuries, headaches, respiratory disorders, digestive disorders, and more. It is a traditional healing technique used in Asia in both clinical settings and in homes to help move toxicity out of the body by increasing blood flow or one’s life force (Qi).

Since pain and disease are often a result of decreased circulation in the body, stimulation is achieved using repeated pressured strokes along the length of muscles or acupuncture meridians. These strokes are administered using a round-edged instrument against the surface of oiled skin. This creates suction on the skin that pulls stagnant and toxic debris out, and replaces it with fresh oxygenated, nutrient rich fluid. The toxic fluid that is brought to the surface is referred to as ‘Sha,’ and is recognized by the reddish and elevated skin (aka petechiae).

The resulting Sha will vary according to the nature, severity, and type of one’s disorder. The colors range from light pink to a dark blue-black and are used to both diagnose and predict the likely outcome of one’s condition.

This is not a painful procedure. On the contrary, patients experience immediate relief from their pain and discomfort. The discoloration of the affected layer of skin disappears in 2-4 days. It does not represent capillary rupture as in bruising.

Whether suffering from chronic or acute discomfort, Gua Sha can be a useful tool in expediting your healing process. Experience the benefits of Gua Sha and schedule a treatment today.
